I am working my way through the frozen breakfast options at Costco and am giving the Jimmy Dean Delights English Muffins a try this week. These sandwiches are made from whole grain muffins with egg whites, turkey sausage and cheese.
Heating Instructions
There are two sets of heating instructions for these muffins:
- Heating from Frozen
- Heating from Thawed
Frozen Heating Instructions
To heat the muffins from frozen you need to:
- Remove the muffin from the plastic wrapper.
- Wrap the muffin in a paper towel.
- Heat the muffin on the Defrost Setting of your microwave for 90 seconds.
- Flip the muffin over
- Microwave on High for 65 seconds
- Let the muffin cool for two minutes and enjoy!
I followed these instructions and the meal was perfectly heated through.
Thawed Heating Instructions
To heat the muffins after they have thawed in your refrigerator you need to:
- Remove the muffin from the plastic wrapper.
- Wrap the muffin in a paper towel.
- Microwave on High for 65 seconds
- Let the muffin cool for two minutes and enjoy!
Taste Test!
The Jimmy Dean Delights muffins are pretty decent but not amazing.
I liked all of the components of the meal but none of them stood out as being exceptional. The turkey sausage is savory and has enough flavor to pull along the tasteless egg white. The protein is filling and satisfying.
I thought the amount of cheese was just right but my wife likes adding an extra slice of American cheese after the muffin has been heated.
The whole grain muffin itself can be dry and a little tough if you skip the defrosting step and heat it on High directly from frozen.
When I first got these I wasn’t sure if they were good enough to buy again but my wife and I have been using these for breakfast on a regular basis and we are currently on our fourth box.
The Delights are not great but they are good enough that we keep eating them!
Calories
One English muffin sandwich is considered a single serving and has the following calories and nutritional information:
- Calories: 260
- Fat: 8g (10% DV)
- Cholesterol: 35mg (12% DV)
- Sodium: 730 mg (32% DV)
- Carbohydrates: 32g (12% DV)
- Protein: 16g
These muffins have a lot fewer calories than Jimmy Dean’s Breakfast Croissants and just a fraction of the cholesterol found in Red’s Turkey Eggwiches.
I appreciate that the muffins are made with cage free egg whites.
Costco Value
The Delights are Item Number 1312297 and are found in the freezer section of the warehouse.
I bought the twelve pack of frozen breakfast sandwiches at Costco for $15.49 which comes out to a cost of $1.29 per muffin.
You can buy an eight count package of these muffins at Walmart for $14.12 which comes out to a cost of $1.76 per muffin.
This means that you will save $0.47 per muffin (26%) when you buy them at Costco.
