The BFree Gluten Free Pita Breads at Costco are an acceptable, but not great, product that I enjoyed.
These pitas are great for dipping in hummus, making pocket sandwiches or just snacking in general.
Taste
The pitas are labeled as “Stone Baked” and have little bits of charring around the edges. I heated the pita up by slicing it in half vertically and putting it in the toaster for a few minutes.
After being “stone baked” and toasted there was a nice browned color to the pita but I wasn’t able to pick up any serious “toasted” flavors. When the pita came out of the toaster it opened up to form the little pocket that was begging to be filled with tasty fixings.
My first thought as to stuff the pita with Costco’s gyro meat but when I realized that the “meat” had breadcrumbs and wasn’t gluten free I figured that wouldn’t be appropriate for this review.
Instead I filled the pita with slices of roast beef, Swiss cheese and tomato for an absolutely delightful light lunch. My impressions were that the pitas were much thinner than I was expecting and were a little tougher than a regular pita. But, while the texture and appearance were a little off, the overall flavor was perfectly acceptable.
The pitas were also great when dipped into hummus and served with cucumber slices.
- Rating the pitas against the other gluten free bread options at my local Costco I liked these:
- Much better than the Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free Multigrain Bread
- Not quite as good as Shar’s Gluten Free Ciabatta Rolls

Costco Value
I bought the 10 pack of BFree Gluten Free Pitas at Costco for $6.99 which works out to a cost of about $0.70 per pita.
High quality gluten free products come at an elevated price and these pitas are no exception. That being said, paying $0.70 for a celiac friendly pita is not unreasonable and you will be hard pressed to find a better value elsewhere.
Why did my Costco stop carrying BFree pita bread?
I’d like to know why all of Costco stopped.
