Why Use Agave Syrup vs Honey?
Agave syrup and honey are both natural sweeteners that are commonly used in baking and cooking. While they both have a sweet taste, they differ in terms of their taste, nutritional content, and processing.
Agave syrup has a mild, neutral taste that is often described as similar to honey, but with a thinner consistency that is more like maple syrup. Agave syrup is also lower on the glycemic index than honey, meaning it does not cause as significant of a spike in blood sugar levels.
There are many reasons why people choose agave nectar over honey including:
- Flavor Preference
- Low Glycemic Index
- Vegan Friendly
Is the Costco Agave Syrup Healthy?
Agave nectar first got on my radar screen because it was getting a lot of press about having a low glycemic index.
Agave nectar has much less glucose than table sugar which means that it will not spike your blood sugar. However, it also contains a large amount of fructose and that is not particularly good for you. Overall, the jury is still out on whether or not agave nectar is a healthy sugar replacement.
Kirkland’s agave syrup is not healthy. The syrup is calorie dense and contains a large amount of fructose. The sweetener, should be used in moderation the same as you should do with honey and sugar.
The Kirkland Agave Syrup is a Costco Value

I think I may be allergic to agave organic sweetener as every time I have this product I become nauseous and sick , does it contain pollen ?
This syrup is excellent for preparing great margaritas. Kirkland Silver Tequila, some fresh squeezed lime and orange juice, a shot of Cointreau (or other orange liqueuer), and a squirt of this sweetener, shake well with ice and serve over crushed ice.
