I bought a tray of the Roasted Chicken and Swiss Rollers at Costco yesterday and, in hindsight, I really wish I hadn’t. I have seen these rollers in the deli counter for a while now and they never looked that appetizing.
It turns out that I was right and that, at least to me, these rollers are not appetizing at all 🙂
These are the same rollers found in the Roller Party Platter from Costco’s catering menu, just is a smaller package.
Taste Test
The single word that sums up these rollers is, “Bland”.
The rollers start with a bland flour tortilla that is used to wrap lettuce and a tasteless hot house tomato along with bland chicken breast meat and Swiss cheese. The roller has a cream cheese cranberry spread that I was really looking forward to but the flavor of the spread got lost in the sea of blandness.
The only flavor not that caught my attention was the Swiss cheese which was slightly sweet and a little nutty but overall pretty mild.
There is nothing offensive about the rollers but nothing to get excited about either.
I opened these for lunch and, after I took a bite, got a little sad thinking about all of the tastier lunch options I had passed up. I should have grabbed a tray of Costco’s Chicken Quesadillas and heated them up when I got back to the house..

Ideas to Make the Rollers Better
The biggest problem with the rollers is that they are bland as heck.
One suggestion I have for making these rollers palatable and halfway interesting would be to slather one face of them with a tablespoon of the La Terra Fina Jalapeno and Artichoke Dip that is right around the corner in the refrigerated deli shelves.
You could also give them a squirt of Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema and they would really pop! This is the same sauce Costco uses for their Street Taco Kit and you can sometimes find it in the refrigerated deli coolers.
Serving Ideas
Another way to improve on the rollers is to pair them with an interesting side dish. Here are some ideas:
Mexican Rice: A classic side dish made with rice, tomatoes, onions, and spices. Mexican rice will add the burst of flavor that is missing from the rollers.
Black Bean Salad: A refreshing and healthy side dish made with black beans, diced bell peppers, onions, corn, and a zesty vinaigrette. This colorful salad will add a pop of freshness.
Roasted Vegetables: A simple and delicious side dish that can be customized to your liking. Roast a mix of your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, and mushrooms, with olive oil, salt, and pepper for a tasty side dish.
Sweet Potato Fries: A tasty side dish that will add a touch of sweetness to the rollers. Cut sweet potatoes into thin strips, toss with olive oil, and bake until crispy for a healthier version of fries.
Coleslaw: A creamy and crunchy side dish that adds a refreshing textural contrast to the softness of the rollers. Make your own coleslaw with shredded cabbage, carrots, mayonnaise, vinegar, and a touch of sweetness for a perfect side dish.
Avocado Salad: A creamy and healthy side dish that will bring color and flavor to your plate. Dice avocados, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, and toss with lime juice, salt, and pepper for a refreshing and flavorful salad.
Storage
The tray of rollers is labelled with a “Pack Date” that tells you when they were made and a “Sell By” date that is always three days after the Pack Date.
The rollers will be safe to eat for about four to five days after the “Sell By” date but the quality will have seriously deteriorated by then as the tortilla gets soggy and the lettuce and tomato start to get mushy.
Try to eat these by the Sell By date for the best quality.
Price
The rollers are Item Number 20128 and are located in the refrigerated deli coolers with the other prepared meals.
The rollers currently cost $6.99 per pound. You get about 2.5 pounds of food per tray so expect to pay a little under $20 for the full tray.
I have to say that this was $20 I regretted spending at Costco.
My mom and my wife love these for a quick snack. They like the wrap rather than bread/croissant. They don’t like things with too much spice, but I’m sure the addition of some spicy mustard would do the trick. We like these due to various dietary restrictions, so they fit the bill.
Hello David,
Try dipping the rolls in some sauce. I dip it in chick fil a sauce and it tastes amazing.
