Calories and Ingredients in the Island Way Sorbet at Costco!

The Island Way Sorbet bowls at Costco are my absolute favorite frozen treat in the warehouse. I think the flavors are delicious and I appreciate that the sorbet is so much healthier than the regular ice cream selections.

The delightful and playful frozen sorbet comes in 12 individual servings comprising three each of the following flavors:

  • Heavenly Coconut
  • Red Berry and Ruby Grapefruit
  • Passionate Mango
  • Zesty Pomegranate

Each serving is hand filled into a frozen all natural fruit shell which makes these frozen treats just a little more fun!

Heavenly Coconut Sorbet in a Coconut Shell

The Coconut Sorbet is my absolute favorite flavor in the box and, of course, is also the least healthiest.

The coconut tastes clean and much brighter than what you get with processed coconut water drinks.  The sorbet is sweet without being clingy and the added real cream and non-fat dry milk provide a silky richness that sets this flavor apart.

The coconut shell can be washed out and reused around the house as a coin tray, key holder, etc.

Zesty Pomegranate in a Lemon Shell

This sorbet has a strong lemon flavor that is oddly complimented by the sweet/tart flavor of the pomegranate.  I couldn’t tell if the dominance of the lemon flavor came from the actual sorbet ingredients or if it was because it had been in contact with the lemon rind for such a long time.

The Pomegranate Lemon sorbet so sweet, tart and refreshing!

Manufacturer

These sorbets are distributed by “Island Way Sorbet” out of Odessa, Florida but are imported from Dynamic Commodities LTD at their manufacturing facilities in South Africa.

Island Way Sorbet is Made is South Africa

Dynamic Commodities says that all of their products are made by hand because the natural and irregular shapes of the fruit bowls  they use do not lend themselves to automation.

I am kind of glad that these sorbets are all hand filled as it means there are quite a few South Africans who get to go to work in an ice cream factory every day. Sure, I bet you the job gets old after a while but it makes for a happy thought 🙂

Dietary Restrictions

These sorbets are marked as Non-GMO, Halal, Gluten Free and Milchik Approved.

The last certification, Milchick Approved, was new to me and I had to look it up.  In a nutshell this means that the product complies with the strict Jewish requirement that any product containing milk does not come into contact with any equipment used to process meat.

Where Are the Missing Flavors?

The four flavors available from Costco are delightful but they are not the only ones the Island Sorbet makes.

According to the Island Way Website they also manufacture other flavors including:

  • Sweet Pineapple
  • Chocolate Coconut
  • Passion Orange
  • Pina Colada

You can find these hidden flavors scattered around at other retailers including Sam’s Club, BJs Warehouse and Super King Markets among others.

Price

I bought the 12 pack of sorbets at Costco for $14.99 which works out to a cost of $1.249 per serving.

You can buy a 10 pack of Island Way Sorbets from BJs Warehouse for $12.79 which works out to a cost of $1.279.

This means that you will save $0.03 per serving, not much really, when you buy the sorbet at Costco.
