A Closer Look at the Leisure Line Adirondack Chairs at Costco

Costco is selling Adirondack Chairs made by Leisure Line.  The chair looks handsome and was quite comfortable when I tried it out in the warehouse.

We are considering replacing the 10 year old wooden Adirondack chairs on our back porch and these chairs, made from heavy duty recycled plastic, are something we are considering.

Customer Reviews

After I got home from the warehouse I pulled up the customer reviews for this chair from the Costco website.

There were over 600 reviews for these chairs and overall the sentiment was pretty positive with an overall 4.4 out of 5 star rating.

When I dug through the negative comments there was one issue that came up again and again:  Assembly can be a nightmare. Some of the complaints about assembly were from five years ago and others were from a few months ago indicating that this has been a long standing issue.

It looks like the biggest issue is with attaching the legs to the frame.  Sometimes the pre-drilled holes do not line up, are on the wrong side of the frame or simply do not exist.

Even people who had a positive experience with the chairs report that assembly will take anywhere for 30 minutes to an hour.

Things to Love About the Chairs

The Leisure Line Chair is made of recycled high density polyethylene that has a 40 year guarantee against slitting, warping or cracking.  These chairs will easily outlast any wooden chair, especially when used for seating in exposed outdoor locations.  This is the same material used for the Leisure Line rocking chairs.

The color of the chair is embedded all the way through the plastic and is UV stabilized against fading.

The chairs weigh about 45 pounds each which is heavy enough to stay in place when it gets windy but is light enough to move around if desired.

The chairs look great, have oversized arm rests and are extremely comfortable to sit in.  I much prefer these Adirondack chairs to the Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Lounger that Costco carries in the summer.

My warehouse has the chairs in gray but the following colors are available when you order them online:

  • White
  • Gray
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Black

Optional Footstool is Available

Costco also has an optional footstool available for these chairs and I think it looks great.

The footstool is made of the same durable recycled plastic so it is UV and weather resistant.

The footstool costs an additional $49 and is NOT automatically included with chair.

Costco Value

My Costco warehouse has these chairs on sale for $139.99.

I checked out the Polywood/Plastic Adirondack chair selection at Home Depot and it looks like equivalent products will cost you anywhere from $179-$249.

Overall these chairs look like a solid value as long as you can figure how how to put them together!
