You know it is winter when Costco is stocking Hot Chocolate Bombs again!
I was shopping at Costco with my daughter the other day and could not resist picking up a package of the BomBombs Cocoa Bombs. These are incredibly cute chocolate shells filled with cocoa powder and mini marshmallows. When you pour hot milk over the bombs it melts the chocolate shell which releases the cocoa powder to make a delicious cup of hot chocolate.
Adorable, fun and delicious!
What is in the Box?
Let’s take a closer look at what you get with this box of chocolate.
The box contains four sleeves of hot chocolate bombs and each sleeve has four bombs for a total of 16 servings.
Each sleeve has the following flavors:
- Milk Chocolate (2x)
- Salted Caramel
- S’mores

Each bomb is about the size of a golf ball and did I mention that they are absolutely adorable?
- The Milk Chocolate flavor is decorated as a Penguin.
- The Salted Caramel flavor is decorated as a Snowman.
- The S’mores flavor is decorated as a Bear.
I sort of have a thing for penguins so all of the Milk Chocolate ones are mine!
Costco often has other varieties of the product including these Melting Snowmen that look equally adorable!
How to Prepare the Hot Chocolate Bombs
The traditional way of preparing these is as follows:
- Place a bomb into a mug.
- Heat six ounces of milk to a simmer.
- Pour the hot milk into the mug.
- Wait a minute until the outer chocolate shell of the bomb melts.
- Stir the mix with a spoon and enjoy!
My daughter taught me a different way that I think makes these even more delicious.
- Place a bomb in a mug.
- Place the mug into your Keurig coffee maker.
- Insert a pod of Kirkland’s Medium Roast coffee.
- Hit start and let the hot coffee melt the bomb.
- Stir and enjoy!
Oh heck yes!
Taste
The bombs make a decent cup of hot chocolate.
The mini-marshmallows are a delight and the chocolate flavor is tasty. The difference in flavor between the three types of bombs is minimal and they are all fine.
These bombs do not produce the most delicious cup of hot chocolate that I have ever had but it is good enough. To be honest, the flavor of the hot chocolate is not that important as these bombs are all about the joy and fun of the process.
Costco Value
The 16 count box of hot chocolate bombs cost me $17.99 at Costco which works out to a cost of $1.124 per bomb.
You can buy an 12 count of undecorated BomBombs hot chocolate bombs at Walmart for $19.99 which works out to a cost of $1.665 per bomb.
This means that you will save about $0.54 per bomb (32%) when you buy the prettier bombs at Costco.
