Trader Joe’s Jaipur Vegetables Make Me Happy!

Trader Joe’s offers a pantry meal of Jaipur Vegetables and, since I had never tried this dish, I was was intrigued to discover how it tasted.

The package said this contained “Garden Vegetables and cubes of paneer cheese with spices and cashews.”  I am a big fan of paneer cheese and absolutely love cashews so this meal looks like it would be right up my alley!

Nutrition, Ingredients and Labelling

Let’s take a closer look at what comes in this 10 ounce pouch.

Nutrition Facts

One pouch of these vegetables contains two servings but when I get Indian food in this size pouch I always eat both servings so I am reporting the nutrition for the whole package.

  • Calories: 370
  • Fat: 26g (33% DV)
  • Cholesterol: 25mg (8% DV)
  • Sodium: 820mg (36% DV)
  • Carbohydrates: 34g (12% DV)
  • Protein: 12g

The calories and fat are higher than Trader Joe’s Tikka Vegetables but that comes with the territory when you start adding cheese and cashews to a meal.

Ingredient List

The Jaipur Vegetables have the following ingredients:

  • Water
  • Potatoes
  • Green Peas
  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Paneer Cheese
  • Cashews
  • Green Beans
  • Sunflower oil
  • Watermelon Seeds
  • Tomato Paste
  • Cream
  • Raisins
  • Salt
  • Red Chili Powder
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Coriander
  • Cumin
  • Turmeric

This is the first time I have seen watermelon seeds on an ingredient label!  I was expecting to see cauliflower in the ingredients but I guess that is optional.

Labelling

The labelling indicates that this product is:

  • Kosher
  • A product of India

This product is not labelled as Organic.

Heating and Serving

The heating instructions for this product are:

  • Cut a two inch slit in the top corner of the pouch to vent.
  • Heat in the microwave on High for one minute.
  • Carefully pour out the contents of the pouch and serve.

With my microwave I have found I get better results when I heat these meals for 90 seconds instead of 60 seconds.

Taste Test!

I have loved most of the Indian meals I have bought at Trader Joe’s (except for the butter chicken and lamb vindaloo) and this was no exception.

The sauce was incredibly creamy and full of cashew flavor.  I think I loved the sauce more than the vegetables 🙂  The meal was heavy on green peas and mildly spicy and was just different enough from Trader Joe’s Tikka Vegetables to be a nice change.

My only complaint about the dish was that the paneer cheese lost its integrity and turned into somewhat of a stringy glob instead of a neat cube.  The cheese tasted fine but was not visually appetizing.

This meal cost me $1.99 for a single 10 ounce pouch and it was worth every penny.

I am very happy with this product and will be buying it again.
